River Window & Amphitheater

The River Window frames a direct, unobstructed view of the Mississippi River from the amphitheater level of the museum.

The Arkansas flood plain, entirely undeveloped, leaves a natural horizon that has remained essentially unchanged for two centuries.

The Amphitheater

Bleacher-style seating connects the Central Courtyard down to the River Window in a series of wide, south-facing steps designed to function as both a public gathering space and a performance venue. Clear sightlines extend to both the Hernando DeSoto Bridge and the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge.

Programming

The amphitheater is designed for concerts, dance performances, film screenings, Shakespeare in the Park-style programming, and public gatherings. It will serve as a publicly accessible performance space on the riverfront — available to the city year-round.
