Hyde Square Courtyard
The Heart of the Campus
Hyde Square Courtyard at Memphis Art Museum is a large, open gathering space accessible to the public at no charge during all museum hours. At approximately the size of two NBA basketball courts and with year-round programming, it will be one of the liveliest publicly accessible outdoor spaces in downtown Memphis.

Designed for Memphis Summers
A 15-foot overhang surrounds the perimeter of the courtyard, providing shade and pulling in cooler air during summer months. A shade tree and ample seating throughout the space make it usable year-round.
Lively Year-Round
The courtyard will serve as the primary venue for the museum's largest community events, including ChalkFest, Día de los Muertos, Holi, outdoor exhibitions, and live performances. It is also available for private and corporate rentals. The river is visible beyond the building's southern edge, providing a natural backdrop for events and daily gatherings.
More Art
Art installations will rotate through the courtyard on an ongoing basis, extending the museum's curatorial program into the open air. Surrounding the courtyard on all sides is the continuous single-story gallery loop.
