Welcome to Your Museum
The lobby at Memphis Art Museum is designed to function as more than an entry point. Drawing on the model of a great hotel lobby, it serves simultaneously as a coffee shop, public meeting space, coworking environment, and the first room visitors encounter when they arrive.
Overhead, a mass timber ceiling, one of the first of its kind in a major U.S. public building, is crafted from Southern Yellow Pine sourced from Dothan, Alabama, a nod to Memphis's legacy as the Hardwood Capital of the World. A mezzanine above offers additional seating, and the whole space is open seven days a week.
Grab a Coffee at First Draft
First Draft is MAM’s lobby café—a place to start, pause or keep an idea going. Grab a coffee before the galleries, meet a friend between exhibitions or settle in for a few minutes and see where your attention takes you. Like any first draft, it doesn’t have to begin with a plan.
