When and where will Memphis Art Museum open?
Memphis Art Museum opens December 6, 2026, at 55 South Front Street in Downtown Memphis. The museum occupies a full city block overlooking the Mississippi River.
Is Memphis Art Museum the same organization as Memphis Brooks Museum of Art?
Yes. Memphis Art Museum is the new home and name of Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. The museum’s collection, programs and 110-year history will continue downtown with more room for art, learning and public use.
When does Memphis Brooks Museum of Art close?
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will remain open in Overton Park through September 27, 2026. Memphis Art Museum opens to the public on December 6, 2026.
When will opening day tickets become available?
Tickets to opening week celebrations will become available this fall. Sign up for our email list and be notified at the link below.
Planning a Visit
Is admission free?
Admission is permanently free for everyone who lives in Shelby County. This includes residents of Memphis, Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, Millington and every other Shelby County community.
Visitors who live outside Shelby County can purchase admission at Visitor Services or online when tickets become available.
What are the museum's hours?
Starting Dec. 6, our gallery hours are:
- Monday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday - closed
- Wednesday - closed
- Thursday - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hours for the restaurant, cafe, and store may differ.
Is there a parking garage?
Memphis Art Museum has an on-site, secure parking garage. Security is on duty anytime the garage is open. Visitors can access the garage from Riverside Drive.

Are there bike racks?
Bike racks are located on Monroe Plaza between the museum and Cossitt Library.
May I bring luggage, strollers, or other personal belongings?
Memphis Art Museum has lockers for your personal belongings — ask the Welcome Desk to assist you upon arrival. Strollers are permitted everywhere in the museum but may not be left unattended.
Does the museum have security staff?
Trained security staff are on-site during all museum hours, stationed throughout the galleries and public spaces. If you ever need assistance, directions, or help in an emergency, look for a team member or visit the Welcome Desk.
Are there free spaces in the museum?
Much of the museum is free and open to everyone during all museum hours, no ticket required.*
*Free for Shelby County residents only.
What accessibility resources and accommodations are available?
All public spaces are ADA accessible, and wheelchairs are available to borrow at no cost, subject to availability. Tour accommodations may be arranged for visitors who are blind, have low vision, or who are deaf or hard of hearing. Sensory bags with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools and other resources, as well as weighted lap pads, are available at the Welcome Desk. Visitors can also use the museum’s resources through the KultureCity app and explore exhibition and collection content through our free digital guide on Bloomberg Connects.

Art and Programs
What art will be on view when the museum opens?
The opening program begins with Making Beauty: Hooks Brothers Studio, 1907–1984, featuring more than 150 photographs.
The collection will also be presented through 19 focused short stories that connect art across periods, places and materials. Works will span 5,000 years of art history, from ancient objects and Old Master paintings to photography and contemporary art.
What events does the museum offer?
The museum presents more than 400 programs each year, including tours, artist talks, performances, films, art-making programs and community celebrations.

Visiting as a Group
How do I arrange a school or group visit?
Guided and self-guided visits are available for schools, community organizations, older-adult groups and other groups. Advance reservations are required.
Teachers can also request field trips, studio activities and other educational experiences. Submit the appropriate group or school visit form to begin planning.
Membership and Support
How can I become a member?
Art Club is the museum’s membership program. Benefits include free year-round admission, first access and special pricing for museum events, free drip coffee, store and café discounts and reciprocal admission at participating museums across the country.
Members who want to become more involved can join Art Now Collective, Black Art Collective, Pride Collective or Couture Collective. Each offers its own programs and opportunities to connect with artists, curators and other members.
What are Collectives?
Collectives are membership groups for those who want deeper involvement and community. All Collective members are still a part of Art Club. They focus on shared interests — like supporting Black artists, LGBTQIA+ art and audiences, fashion and design, or emerging talent in the region.
Each Collective offers exclusive programs, behind-the-scenes experiences, and a direct way to shape museum acquisitions. You can join the one that makes the most sense to you, or join all of them with our All Access Pass.
How can I support the museum?
There are many ways to support the museum. You can become a member, make a one-time or recurring gift, explore corporate opportunities or include the museum in your estate plans. Your support helps us bring art, learning, and connection to more people across Memphis.
