Michelson Living Room
A place to gather, create and stay awhile
Designed with adults 55 and older in mind, the Michelson Living Room is a comfortable place to meet a friend, join a program or take a break between galleries.
Filled with natural light and views into the museum’s courtyard, the space invites visitors to return often, recognize familiar faces and take part in the cultural life of Memphis.

Made possible by E.A. Michelson Philanthropy
The Michelson Living Room is made possible by E.A. Michelson Philanthropy and named in honor of Ellen Michelson, whose decades of support have pioneered the field of creative aging.

Every Thursday in the Living Room
Weekly programs offer new ways to connect with art and with one another.
Things to do may include: listening to live music, joining a lecture or gallery conversation, taking part in a wellness activity, visiting with a book club, making and discussing art, and meeting friends or spending time with other museum visitors.
Programming changes from week to week.

Designed for Comfort
Flexible ergonomic seating, natural light and acoustic treatments make the Living Room comfortable for both quiet visits and group programs. Clear views into the courtyard and an easy-to-navigate layout help the space feel open and welcoming.

Programs for You
Older adults are not limited to a separate program track. All museum events planned with you in mind, but 85 programs are created just for you—all happening in this space.
