The Open Studio is a hands-on creative space where visitors of all ages can drop in, explore materials, and make art together. Spend 20 minutes experimenting at the Project Bar, build an abstract sculpture, draw from a still life, add to the community mural, or settle into the reading nook for a quieter moment.
This is a space for making, playing, collaborating, and seeing what happens when you follow an idea. You do not need to be an artist to join in. Just bring your curiosity.
What You'll Find Inside
Project Bar
Take a seat and get creative. Follow the activity of the month or use the materials on hand to make something entirely your own. Need something else? Ask a staff member.
Sculpture Station
At the Sculpture Station, visitors can use colorful interlocking shapes to build tall, playful abstract sculptures. Try different combinations, test your balance, and see how your sculpture changes as you add, remove, and rearrange each piece.
Light Table
Use the light table to explore shape, color, shadow, and reflection. Move the pieces around and see how light changes what you notice.
Magnetic Display Wall
Choose a magnetic frame, write a museum-style label with your name and artwork title, then hang your work for others to see.
Community Mural
Add your piece to the bigger picture. Choose a blank sheet, connect your drawing to the ones around it, and help build a mural with other visitors.
Still Life Station
Artists have drawn from still lifes for hundreds of years to practice looking closely. At the Still Life Station, arrange everyday objects, study their shapes, shadows, textures, and space, then draw what you see.
Reading Nook
Take a break in the Reading Nook, a quiet spot with books about art, artists, creativity, and imagination. Flip through a book, read together, or sit for a few minutes before heading back into the studio.
Elements of Art Wall
Line, shape, color, texture, form, value, and space are the building blocks artists use to make art. Visit the Elements of Art Wall to see how they work, then try using them yourself.
