Planned Gifts
Plan for the museum’s future through a planned or endowed gift that will sustain art, learning and access for generations.
Memphis Art Museum belongs to the future as much as the present. A planned or endowed gift gives the museum the long view: the freedom to care for what Memphis has built while making room for what comes next.
Ways to Make a Planned Gift
Include the museum in your will or living trust
Leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate or all or part of its remainder.
Give through a charitable trust
Certain trust arrangements may allow you to support the museum while providing income for yourself or someone you name.
Make a gift of property or other assets
Securities, real estate and other property may also be used to make a planned gift, subject to the museum’s gift-acceptance policies.
Name the museum as a beneficiary
Designate Memphis Art Museum as a beneficiary of a retirement account, life insurance policy or eligible financial account. Beneficiary designations can generally be updated without revising your will.
Give through a retirement plan
If you are 70½ or older, you may be able to make a qualified charitable distribution directly from your IRA to Memphis Art Museum. The gift may count toward your required minimum distribution, if one is required, without being included in your taxable income.
Your attorney or financial advisor can help you determine which option best fits your plans.
The following language may serve as a starting point for a gift through your will or trust:
“I give to Memphis Art Museum, federal tax identification number 62-6063304, [the sum of $___ / ___ percent of my estate / the remainder of my estate] to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
Please consult your attorney when preparing or revising estate documents. If you would like to designate your gift for a particular purpose, we encourage you to speak with the museum before finalizing your plans.
Have you already included the museum?
If you have already included Memphis Art Museum in your estate plans, please let us know. You are not required to disclose the amount of your gift. Informing the museum gives us an opportunity to thank you and confirm that we understand how you intend your gift to be used.
