Connection to the River
Monroe Plaza is the civic commons between Memphis Art Museum and the historic Cossitt Library, a new public park along the bluff that will connect two of downtown's most significant cultural institutions for the first time. When Memphis Art Museum opens in December 2026, the long-imagined Bluff Walk will be complete.
Completing the Bluff Walk
The museum, Cossitt Library, Monroe Plaza, the amphitheater, and the cobblestone riverfront below will all connect via fully ADA-accessible pathways, making this one of the only fully accessible routes to the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis. The connection extends from Front Street all the way down to the water.
A Civic Commons
The Plaza brings the museum and one of Memphis’s oldest public buildings, the Cossitt Library, into a single outdoor space. Together, they create a cultural gathering place for outdoor events and everyday , visit the library, and make your way down to the river.
