Memphis Art Museum helps educators bring art into classroom learning and give students direct experience with an extensive museum collection through class visits, school partnerships and professional learning opportunities.
For your students
Field Trips
Field trips invite pre-K–12 students to look closely, ask questions and make connections across time, place and artistic medium. Teachers can choose a docent-led experience, add hands-on artmaking or reserve a self-guided visit.
Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards
The Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards gives students in grades 7–12 an opportunity to submit original work for recognition, scholarships, publication and opportunities to exhibit their work.
Art Builds Creativity
Art Builds Creativity, or ABC, is a multi-visit partnership for fourth-grade classrooms at Memphis-area Title I schools. Students discuss art in the galleries, connect what they see to subjects such as reading, writing and math, then create their own work through a related hands-on lesson.
Early Childhood Outreach Program
MAM’s Early Childhood Outreach Program uses art experiences to help young children practice looking closely, describing what they see and making choices as they prepare to enter school.
Art-Making for All
The Open Studio is a hands-on creative space where visitors of all ages can drop in, explore materials, and make art together.
Educator Workshops
MAM hosts teacher workshops and in-service programs throughout the academic year for educators from public, private and parochial schools. Workshops connect visual art to classroom curriculum, create space for teachers and museum educators to exchange ideas, and provide lesson approaches teachers can use with their students.
